Title |
The Highwaymen: Florida's African-American Landscape Painters |
Summary |
The story of young, black artists who "painted their way out of...the citrus groves and packing houses of 1950's Florida." They peddled their work out of the trunks of their cars, selling over 100,000 works of art. Their landscapes depicted a romanticized Florida. Although they sold well in the beginning, these works were relegated to attics and garage sales until rediscovered in the mid-1990's. There are 63 full color reproductions of these works. |
